DVN Tokyo Lighting Workshop – June 11-12, 2025
The 35th DVN Lighting workshop will take place in Tokyo in Japan. The theme is “Safety & Sustainability : Japanese challenges for lighting business”.
The preliminary program is available below.
DVN is back in Tokyo, Japan, on June 11-12 for its lighting workshop. The first edition of this event took place 13 years ago, in 2012. This year marks the fifth edition. I used to travel to Japan regularly in my previous role when I visited my former colleagues at Nissan.
Japan is a key player in the automotive industry, ranking 3rd in motor vehicle manufacturing (with around 9 million vehicles produced) and 4th in motor vehicle sales (just behind India, with 4.8 million vehicles sold in 2023). The Japanese auto industry currently employs 5.58 million people, including 883,000 in automobile production alone.
In 2024, the market has slightly declined, reaching 4.42 million units. However, Japan also has a strong motorcycle market, with 682,000 units sold, featuring its world-renowned brands. The export market remains strong at 4.4 million vehicles, while imports remain low, with just 311,000 vehicles imported in 2023.
On a global scale, Japanese automakers produced 17.51 million automobiles and 25.19 million motorcycles overseas in 2023, representing around 30% of the worldwide motor vehicle market!
To focus on Automotive lighting market, Japan is primarily dominated by three major players: Koito, Stanley, and Ichikoh-Valeo.
In 2023, I estimated the Japanese automotive lighting market at approximately €3 billion, with Koito holding a market share of over 50%, followed by Stanley and Ichikoh, each with an estimated 15-25% share. The average lighting cost per vehicle is around €300.
At the DVN event in June, you’ll gain insights into the world’s 3rd largest automotive lighting market, with participation from leading Japanese OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, light source manufacturers, and semiconductor companies.
We have an exciting agenda covering key topics, including Advanced lighting technologies (ADB, MicroLED, Laser), Sustainability in automotive lighting, Interior lighting trends & Regulations, with key officials from the Japanese GRE delegation and GTB.
So far, 18 exhibitors and 22 speakers have confirmed their participation! We will soon publish a draft agenda on our website—feel free to check it out and book your trip.
We look forward to seeing you in Tokyo!
